Liberty Residents: Relish in National Hamburger Day
May 22, 2021
National Hamburger Day is Friday, May 28th. It’s the perfect way to kick-off Memorial Day Weekend.
A Cheesy-Going Holiday
Hamburgers are an American staple. Hamburgers, however, were originally called “Hamburg Sausages” and originated in Germany circa 1758. The “hamburger sandwich” steadily increased in popularity after an 1896 article was published on them in the Chicago Tribune.
In 1921, burger chain White Castle opened. Their sliders immediately took off, sparking a craze that inspired McDonald’s, Five Guys, and Steak ‘N Shake.
Celebrate National Hamburger Day by grilling, ordering, and eating some burgers. Top it with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and/or onions.
