Welcoming New Team Members to Our Liberty Family: LaShawn & Kate
December 23, 2020
At Liberty Harbor East, we strive to create a strong sense of community. We recently added two new team members to our Liberty Harbor East family and want our residents to give them a warm welcome! Let’s get to know a bit more about the latest additions to our team.
LaShawn Ringgold, Executive Concierge
LaShawn is a seasoned member of our concierge staff, having worked at Bozzuto for the past 6 years. But, she’s brand new to Liberty Harbor East and we are so lucky to have her on our team! She’s from right here in Baltimore, attended Pikesville High School and currently resides in Abingdon, MD with her precious 3-month-old baby.
We surveyed LaShawn to get to know her better—if you have something in common with her, drop her an e-mail to say hi and let her know!

What was your first impression of Liberty Harbor East?
My first impression was that the building was very nice and modern. I liked the nice clean neutral color scheme of the building.
What has been your favorite part of working at Liberty Harbor East?
The residents! They have all been very welcoming and kind.
What are some of your favorite things to do in Baltimore?
I love going out to eat at all the new restaurants.
What’s the biggest life change you’ve experienced because of COVID-19?
I think it would be not being able to see my family. I had a baby this year and some of my family members were not able to see him unless they were tested for Covid. I think not being able to do the simple things that we once did very often has been the most challenging.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would go to the Maldives, which is on my list of places to go. I love being on the beach and it looks so beautiful and relaxing.
What changes (if any) do you plan to implement at Liberty Harbor East?
I plan to bring a lot of fun/creative ideas to Liberty. I love interacting and helping residents as much as I possibly can. Due to Covid, there a lot of things we are not able to do at this current time, but I love coming up with ideas/things to do to make sure our residents feel appreciated. We always want to make sure they feel at home.
What's a fun fact about yourself that most people don't know?
I am very adventurous—I like to do fun and exciting things! A lot of times can be very spur-of-the-moment.
If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would it be and why?
Independent—I am a very independent person. It can be a gift and a curse. I like to take care of myself and do things for myself, but everyone needs someone to take of them sometimes.
Now that we know a bit more about LaShawn, we hope you’ll be able to connect with her and give her a warm introduction to the Liberty community!
Kate Altenbernd, Concierge
Kate is from Blandon, PA, but spent a decade in Philly and now calls Baltimore’s charming Little Italy neighborhood home. She currently resides with her husband and Boxer, where they are experiencing the “joys” of home ownership at their recently purchased residence on Central Ave. She’s no stranger to Baltimore though, having attended MICA for sculpture before attending Restaurant School in South Philly for pastry. Having worked in the restaurant industry for many years, Kate is brand new to the property management industry and we are lucky to have her!
We asked Kate the same questions as LaShawn so you can also see what you have in common with her and e-introduce yourself!
What is/are Your Favorite:
Book: Pride and Prejudice
Movie: Funny Girl- Barbra Streisand
Color: Yellow
Food: Yes
Animal: Cats!
Sports Team: I’m the WORST sports fan. I honestly don’t care who is playing, I just love going to the games. They’re always full of passion, excitement, and hot dogs.
Vacation Spot: I really love traveling, but if I’m honest, it always ends up being between somewhere in Europe and Disney… but mostly Disney.
This or That: Holiday Edition
Real Tree or Fake Tree: Real, always! (the smell of a tree alone is worth the pine needles!)
Ham or Turkey: Turkey for Thanksgiving, Ham for Christmas!
Hot Chocolate or Egg Nog: Hot Chocolate!
Holiday Glam or Ugly Sweaters: In my world, Ugly Sweaters can easily be my Holiday Glam
White Lights or Multi-color Lights: Multi-color
Sugar Cookie or Gingerbread Cookie: I love all cookies :)
What has been your favorite part of working at Liberty Harbor East?
The residents! Everyone has been so helpful and kind. Also, I was never a dog person until my husband pried open my cat lady heart and made me a dog mom. Now, getting to see all the dogs here at Liberty Harbor East has become one of my favorite parts of my job!
What’s the biggest life change you’ve experienced because of COVID-19?
Getting married! My husband and I were already engaged, and I was laid off due to Covid-19 and lost my health benefits, so we decided to have a small ceremony of 6 people in Wyman Park and have ‘real’ wedding when it’s safe for everyone to hug again.
What's a fun fact about yourself that most people don't know? I did musical theatre for 14 years.
If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would it be and why? Childlike, not to be confused with childish, because I think it’s important to keep fresh perspectives on things, ask lots of questions, and be amazed at the small treasures of everyday life.
Say Hi!
Now that we know a bit more about LaShawn and Kate, let’s give them a warm welcome to the Liberty Harbor East family.
