Liberty Harbor East Residents: Say Hello to SummerJune 13, 2022
The Summer Solstice, on June 21st, marks the beginning of a new season, as indicated by Earth’s axis being tilted the most toward the sun. Cultures around the world celebrate this celestial event in various ways —from Midsummer in Scandinavia, to the Midnight Sun Game in Alaska. Festivals throughout various countries are held to commemorate the warmer months through dancing, drinking, and having fun.
June 21st also marks International Yoga Day! Yoga is a form of movement that holistically combines the mind, body, and spirit to create a sense of relaxation and peace. As a relatively new holiday, there are no age-old traditions besides heading to your yoga mat. Whether you want to try Vinyasa or Yin Yang yoga, there are so many amazing yoga studios in Baltimore to practice and cultivate your own flow!
Go with the Flow
Join B’More SUP at the Inner Harbor for a practice that brings you into the water as the sun rises. You can bring your own paddle board or borrow one for the session. You will be able to enjoy a guided paddle flow, testing your balance on the water and practicing a yoga sequence in a refreshing way. Head back to the pier for some Super Coffee to get yourself energized for the day ahead.
Join Ivy on June 21st in Rodgers Forge at the Cube Cowork for a yoga flow. With goals of bringing a holistic approach to your own life, including career and family life, you will leave feeling refreshed and stress-free.
For.Dope.Moms offers moms a relaxing, private guided meditation and yoga session led by Janay Jacobs. Located in Hampden at The Womb Room, mothers can focus on taking time for themselves and removing any stress holding them down. If you are a mom and feel overwhelmed, head over to The Womb Room to give yourself a little bit of TLC this Summer Solstice.
The 45th Annual Solstice Gala on June 25th combines science with music, food, and drinks. Check out fun science demonstrations or visit some of the center’s hands-on exhibits. All proceeds from the event go towards underwriting the free admission policy for all Maryland students visiting on a field trip, giving all students the access they need to learn. Celebrate the world of science while supporting a great cause!
The Heart and Soil Sanctuary in Hampden is hosting a Mugwort Circle on the Summer Solstice. Join others in harvesting mugwort while learning about the medicinal properties and how to utilize them. You’ll end the workshop with a cumulative meditation and a new knowledge of the power of mugwort!
Let Your Creativity Shine
Located in Fells Point, Paint the Joy, LLC is a small, black woman-owned business that creates a safe space to foster creativity. Celebrate the summer season with some food, wine, and paint for a fun afternoon that will enable you to express yourself on canvas. Bring your friends or family to celebrate with you, creating a shared memory that can be hung up on your own wall!
Head over to the Sheraton Baltimore North Hotel in Towson on June 21st for a unique experience you won’t get elsewhere! Starting with a group conversation that will allow you to get to know each other and set intentions, music will then be played for an hour where you are free to dance and move as you please. No talking is permitted during this time, encouraging you to get out of your comfort zone and connect with your body nonverbally. You will end the ecstatic dance with a closing circle to share reflections on your experience. This will be a Summer Solstice celebration you won’t forget!
