Whether you want to head to the beach for a nice tan or get out in nature, there are plenty of opportunities for you to relax and unwind this summer!
“Sea” you at the Beach
Ocean City
Nothing says summer getaway quite like a beach vacation! Roughly three hours away from Liberty, Ocean City is a go-to spot for Maryland residents. Try some fun water sports, surfing, or paddle boarding, whether you’re a first-timer or a well-seasoned water rider. You can also check out Ocean City’s free events, such as a daily kite show and movies on the beach. Or if you feel like spending some time shopping, Ocean City is notorious for its famous boardwalk that’s sure to keep you busy. Enjoy being a beach bum this summer in Ocean City!
Rehoboth Beach
Drive two and a half hours over state lines for a getaway at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. As the Nation’s Summer Capital, Rehoboth is a favorite beach destination year-round. Check out their iconic boardwalk, full of eclectic stores, tasty restaurants, and family entertainment. The Rehoboth area also includes two state parks — Cape Henlopen and the Delaware Seashore — where you can take a relaxing walk through nature just off the Delaware coast. Cape May
Only three hours outside of Baltimore, Cape May in New Jersey is a popular destination vacation spot all year round. Spend your morning and afternoon at the beach, where you can dip your toes in the cool water or go all in by surfing the waves. Afterward, you can head over to explore three blocks worth of shops offering beachy fashion, unique home decor, and cute souvenirs from your trip. For a more interesting activity, you can go ghost hunting, which will highlight both the historical aspects of the area and merge it with tales of these local hauntings. Close off the evening with a glass of wine offered by the many wineries throughout the Cape, allowing you to relax for the rest of the night. Small Town Summer
St. Michaels
Experience the historical coastal town of St. Michaels on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Enjoy the scenic Chesapeake Bay by taking a cruise through the water, or check out the Maritime Museum to get the feel of the water without being on it. There is also an abundance of shops and stores to fill your day with, ranging from unique antiques at Guilford and Company, to home decor at Ophiuroidea. If you start to feel hungry, you can grab a bite at Ava’s Pizzeria and Wine Bar, or go straight for dessert at Gluten Free Bakery Girl. Only an hour and a half away from Liberty, you can experience a true getaway right off the coast of your own state this summer!
Tilghman Island
Just a two-hour drive away, Tilghman Island guarantees a relaxing getaway that will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. You can rent a boat, kayak, or paddleboard down at Knapps Narrows Marina to spend some time on the water either by yourself or with some friends. Head back to the land to grab mouthwatering seafood at the Tilghman Island Inn while gazing at the waterfront views. Chesapeake City
As a quaint historical town, Chesapeake City combines history with modern fun. Surrounded by mountains and only three hours west of Liberty Harbor East, Deep Creek Lake gives you the relaxation of nature while also keeping you engaged all vacation. If you would rather have a more slow-paced day, head to Downtown Oakland to check out some local history museums or grab something to eat. Assateague Island
Ever seen a wild horse? At Assateague Island, just under three hours from your home at Liberty Harbor East, you can spend your vacation in nature with rare views and tons of activities. The island has over 37 miles of beach to wander, allowing you to see a wide range of nature in all forms. Feel free to take some photos of the wild horses or the various bird species local to the area as you enjoy your leisurely hike.
